To apply for a PhD programme at Vanvitelli University, you must pass a selection process designed to assess your aptitude for scientific research and your knowledge of the course topics and those related to the positions advertised. Grants and Opportunities
Grants
PhD scholarships last for three years and may be funded from a variety of sources. They are awarded on the basis of the candidate’s position in the merit ranking (Article 24 of the regulations) and are guaranteed for the entire duration of the programme, provided that the PhD student successfully completes the required activities each year.
The scholarship is renewed annually and is subject to a positive assessment of the student’s progress.
The minimum amount of the scholarship is determined by the Ministry of Universities and Research.
Research budget for PhD students
In addition to their scholarship, each PhD student is allocated a budget to be used for research activities in Italy and abroad, which varies according to the type of PhD programme and the relevant discipline; however, in accordance with national regulations, it cannot be less than 10% of the annual scholarship amount for each year of the programme.
Vanvitelli University funds 10% of the grant in the first year of the PhD programme, but doubles this investment to cover the full amount for the second and third years, making a budget of 20% available. This is intended to support the research activities of young researchers and to address any financial inequalities among PhD students.
This budget is also guaranteed for PhD students without a scholarship and is allocated to the Department hosting the PhD programme, to support the research and training activities of the PhD student, coinciding with the start of the programme.

Career Management - ATENA Platform
PhD students enrolled at Vanvitelli University can access the ATENA platform to manage information relating to their career, training plan and other services (activity log, mobility, requirements for stays abroad, etc.).
Access to the platform is via the centralised authentication system using the same credentials as for email and other online services provided by the University.

E-resources: A wide range of national and international journals and databases providing scientific support for research are available via the University website.
Software specifically relevant to the planned research areas: Systems, tools and software are available to enhance PhD students’ interaction and use of resources in support of the training activities provided by the PhD programme. PhD students may use the computing centres and available software.
Spaces and resources for PhD students and for computing: Within the premises of the Department of Engineering (DI) and the Department of Environmental, Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technologies (DiSTABiF), PhD students have access to powered study stations with network connections distributed across several rooms. For the 2022/2023 academic year, plans are in place to set up a fully equipped open-plan space covering an area of approximately 350 square metres at the DI, which is currently undergoing renovation.

The University Library System Service Centre coordinates the University's library services and provides users with tools to help them make the best use of the University's bibliographic and documentary resources.

In recent years, the range of services has expanded to include increasingly innovative services, both traditional and digital, which are easily accessible to the entire academic community.
Course evaluation form
Every year, Vanvitelli University conducts a survey to gather feedback from PhD students at the end of each academic year, with the aim of gathering information on the various aspects of the research training program and the services and opportunities that accompany it.
