The Doctoral Program in Industrial and Information Engineering has the primary objective of training high-level researchers and technicians capable of managing the digital, ecological, energy, and infrastructural transitions that the country has undertaken with the strategic missions of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP). In line with the UN 2030 Agenda, and particularly with regard to the objectives of ecological and digital transitions, the Doctoral Program will always aim to train professionals who incorporate sustainable development into their scientific and technological research projects.
Educational Objectives
The Electronic Engineering curriculum aims to provide the skills necessary for the modeling and design of: electronic and photonic devices, components, and sensors; radiocommunication and information processing systems; and radiofrequency and microwave radar sensors; and photonic biochips for the creation of point-of-care devices.
The Computer Engineering program aims to provide high-level qualifications in the modeling and design of: embedded, distributed, and cloud systems; software engineering models and methodologies; security and performance assessment of computing systems; Artificial Intelligence models and techniques; and advanced modeling and control of mechatronic and robotic systems, including automated and connected vehicles, process control systems, and automation.
The Energy Conversion program aims to train professionals with expertise in the energy sector, focusing on methodologies and technologies for the use of renewable sources, energy saving, and energy system optimization. The new challenges to be addressed are associated with the conversion and widespread distribution/generation of electrical and thermal energy.
The Aerospace Engineering program aims to train professionals with expertise in flight mechanics, aeronautical structures and construction, aerospace systems, aerodynamics and thermo-fluid dynamics, and aerospace propulsion.
Finally, the Mechanical Engineering program aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for the modeling and design of mechanical structures, machines, and systems, focusing on more specific topics such as advanced numerical simulation and optimization of mechanical and thermo-fluid dynamic systems, consolidating theoretical analysis and experimental verification.

The expected career path opens up career opportunities as researchers in public or private institutions, or as consultants for high-tech industries and small and medium-sized enterprises. Indeed, not only are there numerous engineering research institutions in Campania, but the regional industrial fabric and surrounding areas also boast significant presences in the electronics, aerospace, mechanical, and transportation sectors.
The roles most likely to be suited to this candidate include:
- Researchers and/or research project managers at universities and public or private research institutions
- Conducting, coordinating, and directing research within institutions and companies, both in the design phase and in the development of production equipment
- Technician responsible for energy conservation and rational use for large companies
- Coordinators of research programs incentivized by national or European legislation
- Public Administration (PA) officials employed in the fourth area dedicated to high-level professionals, established in January 2022 in the new employment contract for the PA Central Functions sector
