The significance and breadth of the subject matter under study make a multidisciplinary approach essential; this is a defining feature of the programme, which is structured in a concentric manner over the three-year period. The first two years are devoted to an in-depth study of a fundamental topic within the contemporary legal system, selected by the Academic Board.
In the third year, the programme takes a two-pronged approach. The first, which remains constant regardless of the cycle, focuses on the in-depth study of the supranational legal framework: in particular, PhD students will be engaged in the study of the main instruments guaranteeing fundamental rights in the relationship between states and international organisations. The second varies depending on the cycle, as it is influenced by research areas linked to funding sources and/or identified by companies with which a collaboration agreement has been reached.
